Here I go again on my own

Gonna give this bad boy another whirl......because i can....and because I feel I'm heading into a fairly choatic period of time that will be easy to document without getting boring or repetitive.

First off: I'm not going to school this year. There are various reasons for this, but the primary one is I can no longer tolerate being in a University setting. So, I shall graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in History in October. Me not being in school anymore also means something else agreed to long ago: You cannot live at home if you aren't going to school without paying rent. Soooo i paid rent for 3 months after deciding on my plan, and that worked fairly well. However, an oppurtunity of adventure and shenanigans has come about that I jumped on. It might not make life terribly easy for me, tripling commute time to work is one thing that comes to mind, but it should be eye opening and a good test. I will continue working at Eco Green until seasons end in October at which point i had better have a job that can pay the bills, although credit is an option to fall back on until my tax refund in February which is always a nice birthday present.

But something must be done if I am to live with any degree of comfort and thus i came up with several options, and slowly shot some down. The options i looked at were:
  • Join the army,
  • become an Educational Assistant,
  • become an Auxillary officer of the Winnipeg Police Service,
  • Bartend
  • or find something menial that's full time.
I really don't want to commit years of my life to the army, so I said no to that. I want to be a teacher, not an E.A.....there's a profound difference. Rachel likes it....I wouldn't be able to stand the lack of power after experiencing that power as a student teacher. And i really dound that I don't have any skills.....at all. So menial jobs might be more taxing than i'd like for something I don't plan on pursuing farther than 8 months down the road.

So Bartending won the day. not that i went around saying I was going to, but i've known for some time that i think this would be a kick ass way to make money, maintain my nightowl lifestyle i seem to maintain in winter months, annnnd people dig bartenders. just saying....

So i'm taking a course in bartending at a place called Fine Art. It's pretty fucking slick. lots of memory work but, meh, it's all managable. Remembering what goes in what, how to pour and what the bottles look like are all key....along with speed. Charm is also good cause if you can't dazzle them with brilliance you gotta baffle them with bullshit. If I remember anything from my old man, it's that piece of advice.....that and "Everyone on the road is an idiot but you" which makes driving that much better

So I'm halfway done the course now, I will be done by this time next week. Afterwards there's an apprenticeship sprogram on Tuesdays at Shannons where you strut your stuff and bar owners watch you and potentially hire you. You work your way into jobs, essentially. I'm doing fairly well thus far, and dealt with my first drunken customers today, one of whom was a bartender at the bar next door who was staggering around asking us to make drinks and tell him what the ingredients are, and i did rather well producing a Melon Ball and a Caramel Candy Apple Martini for him from memory. Drunken high fives were given. It was "Ballin' Outrageous" as one of my Eco green coworkers would say

So yeah....that's kind of what's going on

That and I'm moving out in.......probably 10 days. Good times should be had. Jay and Greg (dunno when or how but he said yes so....yeah)

Remind me to quit at Sobeys one of these days....shit I haven't worked there since March
